Tom Catron is the founder and lead instructor of Vigilant Services & Training, a Texas-based company dedicated to equipping everyday people with practical safety skills, situational awareness, and confidence in high-stress situations. With over 27 years in law enforcement, Tom brings real-world experience to every training session, blending professional expertise with a passion for empowering others.
His career has spanned patrol, investigations, crisis negotiations, supervisor and school-based law enforcement. Tom has served as a patrol sergeant, detective, school resource officer, and field training officer, giving him a well-rounded perspective on both proactive safety strategies and emergency response. As an instructor, he has designed and delivered professional development across Texas, from law enforcement agencies to school districts, earning a reputation for engaging, practical and impactful training.
Tom holds advanced certifications including Master Peace Officer, Advanced Police Instructor, School-Based Law Enforcement, Mental Health Peace Officer and Crisis/Hostage Negotiator, among many others. He also served as President of the Texas Association of Hostage Negotiators, where he was awarded a Lifetime membership for his contributions to the field.
Through Vigilant Services & Training, Tom now focuses on helping families, schools, churches and organizations prepare for the unexpected. His teaching style is professional yet approachable - rooted in real-world experience but always geared toward giving people tools they can use immediately.
